18-Year-Old Indian Prospect Goes Viral for Wembanyama-Like Moves
Jagmat Singh, an 18-year-old basketball player from India, has become an online sensation after a highlight video of his moves drew millions of views in recent days. The clip was taken at the Courtside camp, where he stood out enough to earn the nickname “the Indian Wemby,” a reference to French star Victor Wembanyama.
Singh is listed at 223 centimeters tall, roughly matching Wembanyama’s size, and the video shows why the comparison is being made. He displayed impressive ball-handling, shooting and passing, and social media users quickly latched onto the likeness.
Born in the village of Tanda in Punjab, Singh later moved to Chicago, where he now lives. He also previously represented India at the Under-16 Asian Championship, giving him some international youth experience.
Despite the buzz, scouting sites focused on prospect evaluation, including ESPN, have not yet ranked him as a college target. That could change if he continues to impress at additional camps, with the viral attention now putting him on the radar.
