A survivor of the Nova music festival was stopped at a police checkpoint in Jerusalem a few days ago, then fled the scene, according to a report by Liran Tamari on Ynet. Police opened a chase, fired several shots at the vehicle, and the young man was hit and hospitalized.
The man says that during the incident he shouted to the officers, “I am a Nova survivor, a Jew, do not shoot.” He has since remained in the hospital under heavy guard, with three armed police officers stationed by his bed. The article says he is being treated as if he were, at minimum, a terrorist.
The investigating unit is the Moriyya police station, which the report notes was previously ordered to pay about 600,000 shekels after allegedly treating left-wing demonstrators unlawfully and disgracefully. Tamari wrote that “judgment is not exactly their strong suit.”
The court later allowed his parents to stay with him for a limited time, but the station appealed in an effort to block the visit.
