Reserve Sergeant Haim Klomiti Killed in Sharon Shooting Attack
Reserve Sgt. Haim Klomiti, 55, from Tzur Natan, a territorial defense fighter in Battalion 8881 of the Ephraim Brigade, was killed today, Sunday, in the shooting attack in the Sharon area. Another reserve fighter was seriously wounded in the same incident. The Southern Sharon Regional Council said Klomiti was survived by a wife, three daughters, parents, and three siblings, adding: "He was killed while going out to save lives and acted extensively for the security of the State of Israel."
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office conveyed its condolences to his family and to the families of the wounded: "Together with the local security coordinator, who was seriously wounded, Haim moved toward the threat and heroically defended the residents of Tzur Natan from the despicable terrorist who launched a murderous shooting spree. I wish our wounded in the attack a swift and full recovery, and I strengthen the security forces that acted decisively and eliminated the terrorist. We will continue to fight terror with an iron fist on all fronts."
The shooting attack took place at several locations near the communities of Kochav Yair, Tzur Yitzhak and Tzur Natan. Among the wounded were two men who were seriously injured and brought to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba in life-threatening condition and taken into operating rooms.
According to suspicion, the attacker, Omar Yasin, in his 20s, left Tayibe by car around 10:30 a.m. and first arrived at the McDonald's branch at the gas station outside Kochav Yair, where he fired at civilians from the vehicle and wounded two. He fled along Route 5533 and entered Tzur Yitzhak, where he fired at a civilian guarding the entrance to the community. The guard was wounded in the hand, and the attacker continued to Tzur Natan and also fired at another civilian guarding the community gate. From there he continued to the community of Sal'it, where he spotted Klomiti sitting in his car and shot him.
