Maccabi Tel Aviv’s new coach, Kenny Miller, is set to earn about 300,000 to 350,000 euros for a one-year deal with an option for a second season. That would make him the lowest-paid foreign coach under owner Mitch Goldhar, even though his salary is still the highest in the league, above those of Barak Bakhar and Ran Kozuch.
The appointment was first revealed by ynet. Club sources said Maccabi had already settled on Miller during last season, and that while the public was speculating about other names, they had already told him he would get the job. They added that this is why he told the players he was staying.
Miller moved from assistant coach to the senior job, which significantly increased his pay, though the club says the figure remains modest by Goldhar-era standards. One source said, “We chose Miller already last season.” Another added that other reported candidates were never really relevant to the club’s plans.
Miller also spoke with midfielder Dor Peretz and asked him to remain at the club and accept Maccabi Tel Aviv’s new offer, which was also first reported by ynet, after Peretz returned from a meeting in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb. The club wants Peretz to travel with the team to its training camp in Serbia on Sunday. Striker Ion Nicolaescu will not go because he is still recovering from a torn knee ligament, and Danni Grופר will also stay in Israel after a similar injury.
