Victori supermarket chain is selling an unusual promotion: fuel cards worth 250 shekels that cut 55 agorot from each liter of 95-octane gasoline at full-service Sonol stations. The deal is limited to full-service fueling only, and shoppers can buy up to four cards per purchase.
With the discount, the effective price drops from 7.80 shekels per liter to 7.25 shekels. At that rate, the card covers 33.33 liters. Buying that amount at the regular price would cost 259.9 shekels, while under the promotion it costs 241.6 shekels, a real saving of 18.3 shekels per card, or about 73.3 shekels for four cards.
The cards are being sold in selected Victori branches, including Malha Mall, Harel-Mevasseret, Ashkelon Center, Gedera, Givat Ben Yaviv, Dimona, Yavne, Modi'in, Ofakim, Ashdod Mall, Beersheba, Bat Yam, Tirat Carmel, Netivot, Afula Train Station, Kiryat Gat, Kiryat Motzkin, Rishon-Shmotkin, Ra'anana Park and Rehovot, and can be used at about 240 Sonol gas stations.
The promotion fits a broader retail trend of offering eye-catching products to bring customers into stores as consumer prices keep rising. Victori has already sold iPhones, appliances, TVs and other items, and has said it will also sell real estate in its branches. The chain’s rival chains, including Osher Ad and Rami Levy, have also joined similar trends.
The report also notes that Victori recently disclosed, after a demand from the Israel Securities Authority, that it sold food to Gaza worth about 99 million shekels as an official supplier to the defense establishment. Those sales made up 65% of the company’s total sales increase of 152 million shekels in the first quarter. Separately, CEO and controlling shareholder Eyal Rabid is due to appear Wednesday morning at Lod District Court for the first hearing in a price-fixing case. The Competition Authority has filed a seven-count indictment against him and also charged the owners and CEOs of Yochananoff and Super Bareket. Evidence cited includes interviews and recordings from Rabid’s phone, which suggest attempts to influence competition and trigger price hikes in 2021. In one quote to suppliers, he said, “If you need to raise the price, raise it,” and also, “My brother, as far as I’m concerned, raise it 20%, as long as those two terrorists, Rami Levy and Yochananoff, raise theirs.”
