Iranian authorities said in recent months they have arrested more than 3,000 people on suspicion of cooperating with Israel and confiscated hundreds of assets belonging to suspects. Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir told SNN that among those detained, 684 are suspected of carrying out what authorities described as “operational activities” for Israel.
Jahangir also said 1,258 people are accused of spreading propaganda against the regime, and that 1,061 indictments have been filed in the case so far. Last week, authorities said they seized property belonging to 100 people in Isfahan province, identifying them as collaborators with Israel.
The arrests are part of a wider domestic crackdown by the Iranian regime against opposition figures and opponents of the government. Since protests broke out in the country early this year, authorities have acted against those they call “traitors,” whom they suspect of helping operations carried out by Israel and the United States under Operation “Roar of the Lion.”
During the latest clashes, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps accused Israel and the United States of trying to destabilize Iran through spy networks and local agents. “While the Zionist enemy and the United States try to invade Iran, they are simultaneously deploying mercenaries and spies to create unrest as the next step,” the organization said during the fighting. On April 18, reports also said tens of thousands in Iran had been arrested, summoned, or questioned, about 11,000 had been summoned to trial, and nearly 9,000 had already been accused or had their cases transferred to court, with hundreds facing charges including espionage and cooperation with the enemy.
