Israeli police said on Tuesday that Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Danny Levy spoke with the district commander and the station commander about the incident in Bnei Brak and heard their account of what happened. According to the statement, they argued that the serious event, in which a major traffic route was blocked early in the morning, disrupted public order and affected the daily routine of tens of thousands of residents, so a significant police response was needed to restore order.
The police said Levy ordered a professional lessons-learned review of the incident, as is customary in such cases. He also expressed his appreciation and backing for the commanders and officers operating in the field.
The statement said Levy supports police personnel who make real-time decisions in a complex operational environment and will continue to stand by them in carrying out their duties for the security of Israel's citizens.
The message comes after reports that National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir had sought to dismiss the commander involved.
