On Tuesday, journalist Avishai Grinzig sharply criticized Justice Minister Yariv Levin for not opening disciplinary proceedings against Supreme Court Justice Khaled Kabub. Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli, a member of Levin’s party, shared Grinzig’s post on X, amplifying the criticism.
Grinzig said that several years ago he had published articles about Kabub. He claimed that despite what he described as a “commendable cover-up” by then-ombudsman Uri Shoham, the ombudsman found three separate complaints against Kabub to be justified, an unprecedented finding.
He added that in 2024 the Lavie organization petitioned the High Court of Justice, demanding that Levin use his authority to bring Kabub up on disciplinary charges. That petition was rejected outright for failure to exhaust procedures. “Lavie should have waited longer to see whether the justice minister would do something,” Grinzig wrote. He then said two years had passed with no action, adding, “Levin did nothing. Did not answer appeals. Nothing.”
Grinzig said Lavie later filed another petition and attacked Levin’s response to it. “Levin’s response now: I will deal with it when I have time. I am busy. Send me another request. The court does not need to intervene. Leave me alone. Read it yourselves. What does this minister want from us?” he wrote. In a follow-up post, he sharpened the attack further, saying: “There has never been a justice minister whose declared policy was: I came not to work.”
