New reporting in Canada says the gunman who killed a Montreal police officer and a Jewish Canadian civilian left behind a more than 100-page manifesto filled with hatred of women and a call for violent revolution. CBC reported overnight that the shooter, described in Canadian coverage as tied to incel culture, also focused on pornographic industry targets. CNN reported that local police now believe the attack was aimed at police rather than the Jewish community.
According to CTV, the manifesto includes attacks on women, arguments about masculinity, and opposition to women’s freedom. It also specifically names porn industry gatherings, corporate headquarters, and prominent performers as intended targets. The shooting took place near the offices of Aylo, a pornography company, though investigators have not said whether that location was chosen for that reason. Aylo said it is cooperating with the investigation.
Police said the attack unfolded in at least two bursts and appeared to be an ambush. The gunman was killed by police after firing more than 20 rounds and was seen in video and images wearing camouflage and tactical gear. Despite the setting in a heavily Jewish area and near Jewish institutions, investigators now assess the police force was the intended target.
The Jewish civilian killed was identified as Michael Moshe Mizrahi, who ZAKA said it is working to bring for burial in Israel. ZAKA volunteer Moishi Blech said he spent hours at the scene with Mizrahi’s son before the family received official confirmation of his death. The second fatality was 34-year-old officer Mohammed Lamine Benrduane, who had served since 2021. A female officer was also wounded, and authorities called Benrduane’s death a major loss.
