Manchester United said on Monday, June 22, 2026, that it has secured ownership of the land needed for a new Old Trafford stadium, advancing the club’s redevelopment plan launched last year. The project calls for replacing the current ground with a stadium of at least 100,000 seats, alongside a broader regeneration of the area around the iconic venue.
The newly acquired site is about 25 dunams in size and sits less than half a kilometer from the present stadium. United said it will now begin preparations and talks with stores and companies that may lease retail space around the future complex.
According to the club’s official statement, the wider redevelopment is expected to bring 15,000 new homes and create 48,000 new jobs. United estimates the overall project will inject $7 billion into the British economy.
The club hopes the new stadium will be ready for use starting in the 2030/31 season. Manchester United described the land purchase as a “milestone moment” in its plan to transform Old Trafford.
