Thirteen people were killed and 66 others injured in an explosion that occurred yesterday at the Ras Laffan plant in Qatar, Energy Minister Saad Al-Kaabi said. He said the incident was an accident, not sabotage, and that investigators are still examining what caused the blast.
Al-Kaabi added that Qatar’s energy facilities were not affected by the fire, and neither was the Ras Laffan port. He also said the country’s natural gas exports continued without disruption.
The update came as authorities continued assessing the incident and its cause. No further details on the victims or the condition of the injured were given.
