Explosion Reported at Qatar Gas Facility, Authorities Say No Leak Risk

A loud blast was reported overnight in Doha, Qatar, according to Reuters. Shortly afterward, Qatar’s Interior Ministry said an explosion had occurred at the Ras Laffan gas production facility in the northeast of the country.

Authorities said fire and rescue crews were operating at the scene and that the incident was still under investigation. The ministry said there were no casualties.

Officials also said there was no concern about a gas leak or any hazardous materials escaping from the site. Qatar said its agencies were continuing to handle the incident and determine what caused it.
