Shifודי Hezi in Or Yehuda, long known for its Iraqi kebab, generous pricing and warm service, has added a major new draw, shawarma sold in a pita for 35 shekels. The restaurant is marking 30 years in business this month, and to celebrate it dedicated half of its kitchen space to two giant shawarma spits.
One spit is made from veal and the other from turkey, both seasoned with a secret blend created by founder Hezi. The shop says the flavor nods to Iraqi cooking while staying mild enough not to overpower the meat. Customers can order the shawarma as veal, turkey or a mix, with salads, spreads, hot sauces and a side bag of fries included in the price.
The article says the 35-shekel deal has no small print, no quantity limits and no time restriction, and that this is the fixed price. Shai, the grillman at the site, said the spits are assembled fresh every morning and are now usually sold out by around 8 p.m. because demand keeps growing.
The recommendation is to come early, preferably at lunchtime, or even at 10:30 a.m. if appetite strikes sooner. The writer also urges visitors not to skip the restaurant’s famous Iraqi kebab, which is described as a must-try alongside the shawarma. Shifודי Hezi is located at 6 Hashalhevet Street in Or Yehuda.
