Panathinaikos announced on Sunday that Zeljko Obradovic has officially been named the club's new head coach. Club owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos marked the return by posting a photo with Obradovic on Instagram and writing, "The story continues..."
The 66-year-old Serbian is coming back to the team most closely associated with his career, replacing Ergin Ataman, who finished last season with only the Greek Cup. Obradovic coached Partizan Belgrade from 2021 until last November, when he resigned.
Obradovic is far more than a former Panathinaikos coach. He is widely regarded as the architect of the club's golden era, the figure who turned OAKA into one of Europe's most intimidating arenas and Panathinaikos into a continental powerhouse. From 1999 to 2012, he led the team to five EuroLeague titles, 11 Greek championships, and seven Greek Cups.
His resume also includes nine EuroLeague championships with five different clubs, a record unmatched in the sport. His return restores a coach whose legacy still shapes expectations around Panathinaikos today.
