Police are investigating a serious suspicion that the owner of a daycare in Kiryat Gat fabricated a break-in at her facility in order to destroy the site’s recording system. According to the suspicion, she acted after parents demanded access to the footage and she feared the recordings would expose improper conduct at the daycare.
The case came to light Sunday morning on Reshet Bet, after parents received audio recordings in which several caregivers were heard speaking abusively and inappropriately about children at the center. In one recording, a caregiver is heard saying about one girl, "She already got blows on her hands." In another, a teacher is heard saying, "Bitch, I now need to change her," and the assistant replies, "Throw him in the crib."
Alarmed by the recordings, the parents formally asked the daycare management to immediately review the security camera footage, as is customary in such cases. In response to their insistence, they were summoned to the kindergarten, where the owner told them that during the night there had been a break-in and the main recording device had been stolen.
The parents did not accept that explanation and believed it was an attempt to cover up what had happened, so they filed a police complaint at the local station. Investigators who arrived at the scene collected evidence, and the owner was detained for questioning under warning. She was later released to house arrest, and in addition to the original suspicions she is now also suspected of obstructing justice. Police said the investigation remains active, with witness testimony and evidence collection continuing as they work to establish the truth.
