A one-year-old toddler choked on a piece of watermelon in Ramat Yishai on Sunday and was saved after Magen David Adom crews arrived quickly and cleared the blockage. The call reached MDA’s Carmel district dispatch center at around 12:00, and medics and paramedics found the child having trouble breathing and showing signs of cyanosis.
Emergency medic Abd Qabia said the team was told a toddler had choked while eating watermelon. “We saw the toddler in his father’s arms, struggling to breathe with signs of cyanosis,” he said. The crew immediately began first aid, including back blows, and within moments the watermelon piece came out.
Qabia said he was “very moved” to hear the baby crying and understand that his condition was stabilizing. After checks by the intensive care ambulance team, the child was found to be in normal condition and did not need further treatment or hospital evacuation.
