A family outing turned terrifying in Torreón, Mexico, when powerful wind gusts lifted a giant inflatable play castle into the air while children were inside it. The incident happened last weekend at the city’s convention center, where many children had been playing before the structure broke free from the ground and became what witnesses described as a deadly flying trap.
According to local news reports and ABC News, at least 10 children were injured in varying degrees when the inflatable rose and then crashed down. Witnesses said the structure climbed as high as 10 meters before the roof of the convention center stopped it from going even higher.
One eyewitness said, “The wind would have blown the structure even higher if the convention center roof had not stopped it.” The account added to the shock of onlookers who watched the scene unfold.
The accident has triggered concern over the safety of inflatable attractions at large public events. Local authorities have opened an investigation into how it happened, while the community is following the condition of the injured children.
