Two Haredi boys, ages 6 and 8, were injured on Saturday afternoon in the Ramat Beit Shemesh D' neighborhood of Beit Shemesh after crashing a Bimba into a curb while riding together on Sderot HaAmoraim street. Emergency responders said the older boy suffered a significant head injury and was listed in moderate condition, while his 6-year-old brother was lightly injured.
Both children received initial medical treatment at the scene and were evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. The crash happened during the afternoon, and the boys were playing on the toy vehicle when they lost control and hit the curb.
Paramedic Nati Ben Shimon and medics Hanoch Revach and Benzi Tekober from Tzavta Hatzalah said, "When we arrived at the scene we saw two children in different conditions after they collided with the curb while riding a Bimba. Together with other medics and paramedics from MDA, we provided initial medical care including stopping bleeding, immobilization, and bandaging." The article notes that similar accidents involving Bimbas are not uncommon among children.
It cites earlier cases, including a brother and sister, ages 5 and 8, who were hurt in Neve Yaakov about a year and a half ago after losing control of a Bimba and rolling into the road, where they were hit by a car. In another incident, a 6-year-old boy suffered a head injury while riding a Bimba and later underwent life-saving surgery at Rambam Hospital. The article also says the Ministry of Economy warned several years ago about one Bimba model that failed safety standards, citing structural weaknesses that could cause collapse and illegal levels of phthalates in children's toys.
