IAEA Board Demands Iran Declare Remaining Enriched Uranium Stockpile
The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency passed a resolution today calling on Iran to declare its remaining stockpile of enriched uranium, “for all the material required,” and to allow inspectors to verify it. The move could complicate the talks Washington is holding with Tehran.
Reuters reported that the resolution, submitted by the United States, Britain, France and Germany, was approved by a vote of 21 in favor, three against and 10 abstentions. The countries opposing the resolution were Russia, China and Niger, while Venezuela was not allowed to take part in the vote.
Iran’s delegation to the UN institutions condemned the agency’s decision. In a statement, it said, “The decision is unprofessional and political. How can the IAEA be trusted when warmongers are in control of it?”
