Khaled and Hanan Jamal, a married couple in their 50s from Kfar Qasem, were killed overnight between Wednesday and Thursday while driving to work at a nursing home. Footage released in the evening shows motorcycle riders pulling alongside their car and opening fire at close range, apparently killing them within moments. Their deaths were confirmed shortly afterward.
According to the report, the couple were likely not involved in the feud that led to the attack. The gunmen were apparently looking for relatives of the victims, and when they could not find them, they allegedly targeted the Jamals instead.
Muhammad Jamal, the slain man’s brother, said he was shocked and insisted, “He was not in conflict with anyone. I did not expect him to be murdered. The situation is very difficult, and we cannot continue living as long as people are being killed everywhere every day.” Their son-in-law, Muhammad Sharif, said he could not absorb the scale of the tragedy and described them as among the kindest and most generous people he knew, adding that they devoted their lives to raising their children and supporting their education.
Nidal Taia, a Kfar Qasem resident, said the family was well known and that all of their children are doctors and nurses. He said the killing had shaken Arab communities and warned that if Khaled and his wife could be murdered, then everyone is at risk. Other residents said they fear further retaliation and described the situation as unbearable, noting that two young men from the city were killed just a month ago and another was critically wounded. They said the streets have become “a scene of bloodshed.” Earlier on Thursday, a separate double homicide occurred in the Golan Heights, where Saada Saada and Marwan Abu Shaheen, both northern residents, were shot dead in Buqata. Police said they opened an investigation.
