Major U.S. Jewish groups sharply criticize new U.S.-Iran understanding

Leading Jewish organizations in the United States, including AIPAC and the American Jewish Committee (AJC), issued unusually sharp criticism of the Trump administration after a new memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.

AIPAC said the deal gives Tehran enormous economic benefits before it has dismantled its nuclear infrastructure. The group also warned that the arrangement could prevent Israel from continuing military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In its statement, AIPAC said that “a final agreement must permanently and verifiably end the regime’s nuclear program,” and called on Congress to make sure the deal meets the goals set by President Donald Trump. The AJC said it was “deeply concerned” about the memorandum.
