Maksim Falkushchenko has signed with Hapoel Ramat Gan, the new promoted club in Israel, after leaving Maccabi Netanya following three seasons. The midfielder will try to help the team meet its goals in its return to the Premier League.
Speaking on Sport 5’s "Be-Avir," Falkushchenko said his two seasons at Netanya were excellent personally and professionally, but injuries disrupted his third year. He said that after starting the season well, he was injured against Hapoel Tel Aviv, returned earlier than expected, suffered another injury, and "got out of the loop." He added, "I expected more backing after the previous two years."
Falkushchenko also said he spoke with coach Ronny Levy about what he needed to do to play, but felt he would not get enough minutes. On his departure, he said, "Everyone saw my connection to Maccabi Netanya, the fans too, everyone around. How did they part with me? They sent me an email at the end of the season."
He stressed that he did not see Hapoel Ramat Gan as a small club, saying that after meeting the management and coach Massai Dego he saw the club’s ambitions. He said making the playoffs would mean the team had met its objectives. Falkushchenko, 30, said he still believes he has at least five or six more years left in his career, and defended his work rate by citing former Maccabi Haifa coach Guy Tzarfati.
