American TV host Jimmy Kimmel devoted his opening monologue to the U.S.-Iran agreement, ridiculing the war’s outcome and the concessions the Trump administration gave Tehran. He argued that the war ended with Iran stronger and more dangerous, saying, "We killed the ayatollah and replaced him with a younger, more radical ayatollah." Kimmel also said, "We did nothing for the protesters in Iran, and we removed the sanctions that had been imposed before the war began."
He summarized the deal sarcastically as getting "a ceasefire that already existed" and "reopening a strait that was already open." Kimmel said the United States spent billions of dollars on bombs and missiles, only to end up giving Iran effective control of the Strait of Hormuz and enormous economic benefits. He also referred to reports that the agreement could allow Tehran to exert future pressure by threatening to block the strait.
According to Kimmel, Washington handed Iran a leverage tool even more significant than nuclear weapons. He closed with a jab at the president’s wife, saying, "Right now Melania Trump is probably asking herself, how do I get a deal this good from Trump too?" His remarks came after the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran was published, drawing criticism from Republican lawmakers and conservative figures in the United States over the scale of the concessions to Iran.
