Eilat prosecutors filed an indictment against a resident of the Bedouin diaspora after he broke into a convenience store at a car wash where he worked in the city. According to the investigation, the incident took place at the beginning of the month.
The suspect allegedly forced his way into the business by kicking in the closed entrance door, causing damage estimated at about 6,500 shekels. Once inside, he went straight to the cash register and tried to pry it open with his hands, but failed.
Security footage allegedly shows him going to a small kitchen area, returning with a knife, and trying again to force the register open. When that also failed, he ripped the register from its place and hurled it to the floor, but it still remained closed.
After three unsuccessful attempts, he is accused of leaving the store carrying the entire cash register. The indictment says he acted without the owner's consent, by fraud and without a good-faith claim of right, and that he entered with intent to steal and cause damage, broke the entrance door intentionally, damaged the register, and took the register and its contents without permission.
