After a selection process that screened about 130 candidates, Minister of Settlement and National Missions Orit Strock named Adi Vels as the new director-general of the National-Civil Service Authority. The search committee submitted a shortlist of three final names before Strock made the appointment.
Vels is 42, a mother of seven, and holds a master’s degree in social work. She currently heads the senior welfare division at the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration. In the past, she served as chief social worker at Amindav and later as the national director of its unit for special populations and social services.
Strock praised the appointment, saying national service is of “enormous importance” for Israel’s “national and social resilience,” and thanked outgoing director-general Reuven Pinski and the search committee for their work. She said she believes Vels is the right person to lead the authority toward its next goals.
Vels said she was grateful for the trust placed in her and called the post “a first-rate national mission.” She said she feels deeply connected to the organization’s values and wants to advance processes, expand and strengthen the impact of national service, and lead the system to new achievements.
