Neymar took part in a full Brazil training session on Wednesday, raising hopes he could return to action at the World Cup. The forward has not worn the Seleção shirt for nearly three years, and his career was badly disrupted by a serious injury suffered in 2023 against Uruguay.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti had not initially included Neymar in any of his preliminary squads, but eventually called him up for the tournament, apparently after heavy media pressure. Neymar did not feature in Brazil’s opening match, which ended in a disappointing 1:1 draw with Morocco, and he watched from the sidelines as the team struggled.
Until now, Neymar had only trained in a limited capacity. On Wednesday, he joined the squad’s main session and even took part in a practice game, prompting hopes in Brazil that he can add some creativity and star power. Still, it is far from certain he will play in the next match against Haiti.
Brazilian reports say the staff will monitor how he feels and will not rush to risk him. If he is not used against Haiti, he is expected to be available for the team’s final group-stage game against Scotland.
