A new butcher-shop burger spot called Butch has opened in the small commercial center of Kfar Shmaryahu, and after an initial rush that created a line spilling into the street, the reviewers now say it is time to visit. In their view, the restaurant is already serving one of the best burgers in the country, built on the meat expertise of the long-running Yuzzi delicatessen and butcher shop.
Yuzzi was founded by butcher Yuzzi in 1956, and the business has since passed through the family. Today it is run by Shlomi Tzarfati, together with his son Ben, who spent years managing the kitchen at the legendary Yoezer Bar-Yin restaurant. The burger had previously been sold only as patties for home cooking, but the team decided to turn the butcher shop’s signature beef into an on-site burger place.
The menu is deliberately small and focused mainly on burgers, with one notable chicken sandwich. The house formula, according to the review, rests on three things, a very juicy patty with deep beef flavor, a soft brioche bun that holds it well, and a surprisingly excellent roasted chicken sandwich. The sides include fries, sweet potato fries, roasted potatoes, and onion rings in beer batter.
Prices start at 47 shekels for a 150-gram plain burger for children, and the adult burgers are 240 grams. Options include the basic Butch burger with Butch sauce, the Butch-Burger with chipotle aioli, jalapeño onion jam and aged cheddar, and a cheeseburger with real bacon priced at 95 or 115 shekels for a meal. The chicken sandwich costs 75 shekels, or 89 as a meal, and there are no desserts. The review says customers can also buy burgers for home, should ask for Butch sauce on the side, and may want to take home a package of lamb kebab as well. The address is 1 Ha-Rishonim Square, Kfar Shmaryahu.
