A Maui resident in Hawaii has become an unexpected internet sensation after being filmed cruising through Kahului on a beach chair mounted to a motorized skateboard. The unusual ride drew attention from drivers and pedestrians alike and quickly spread across social media.
The video was recorded by a local driver, Serenity Lind Akang, while she was on her way home. She said the sight made her burst out laughing and that she could hardly believe the creativity behind the homemade vehicle.
In the clip, the man sits comfortably in the chair and waits at a traffic light as if he were operating an ordinary vehicle. After the light changes, he continues down the street on the improvised contraption.
The footage was distributed by the content agency Storyful and rapidly amassed thousands of views and shares. Many online commenters praised the inventive, laid-back spirit they associate with life in Hawaii.
