Hezbollah MP Admits Lebanon Faces Crisis, Difficulties Ahead

Hassan Ezzedine, a Hezbollah parliament member in Lebanon, stated on Saturday that the country is experiencing a "crisis reality." Speaking at a memorial ceremony in southern Lebanon, he suggested it would be "difficult" for Hezbollah to return to its pre-2023 status. Ezzedine criticized the Lebanese government for internal instability, lack of security, and alleged enemy attempts to incite anarchy, asserting the government has lost credibility and legitimacy.

He also highlighted Iran's growing regional influence, describing it as a major power with thousands of considerations, and noted that Lebanon is emphasized as a primary point in all understandings related to Iran. This comes as the Israeli military reported completing the clearing of two Hezbollah underground tunnel routes in the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon. While the IDF has achieved operational control above and below ground, efforts to neutralize and destroy the tunnels are ongoing.

Israel anticipates a potential response from Hezbollah and possibly Iran, having prepared for such a scenario. Hezbollah launched a drone overnight, and while a clear official response is pending, sources close to the organization claim their forces withdrew orderly and that the conflict in the region is not over from their perspective. Israeli assessments, which proved accurate, predicted a response might begin with drones, anti-tank missiles, or rockets targeting IDF forces and northern communities.

The central question now is whether Hezbollah will limit its response or if the destruction of the tunnels will escalate into broader exchanges of fire, testing Iran's stated threat. Earlier reports indicated Israel would release five Lebanese detainees, with Prime Minister Netanyahu stating they were not involved in terrorism. The IDF stated its recent strikes in Lebanon were a response to Hezbollah's drone launch.
