Israel Strikes Hezbollah Targets in Lebanon After Drone Incursion
The Israeli military (IDF) launched strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on Friday, September 4, following an earlier incident involving a drone launched from Lebanon towards Israeli forces. The drone was intercepted, and no Israeli casualties were reported. The IDF stated the strikes were a "gross violation" by Hezbollah.
Initial reports from Lebanese media indicated multiple waves of Israeli strikes, including the elimination of two individuals on a motorcycle in the southern village of Rumman. Further strikes were reported in the Bekaa region, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, and Ramadieh. Lebanese sources reported three fatalities and several injuries from later Israeli strikes.
Separately, eyewitnesses near the Sea of Galilee observed aerial interceptions, which the IDF clarified were missile intercepts over Jordan, launched from Iran. These appeared from the Sea of Galilee as if occurring over northern Israel. Reports of Iranian strikes on a US base in Jordan were not confirmed.
These military actions occurred concurrently with ongoing negotiations between Israel and the Lebanese government. Over the preceding two days, five detainees were released and returned to Lebanon as part of these talks. Lebanon is also reportedly searching for the remains of Jewish community leaders abducted and killed in the 1980s. Israel maintains that none of the five released detainees had ties to terrorist organizations.
One of the released detainees, Hussein Ayash, 33, described his detention by IDF soldiers in southern Lebanon approximately three months prior. He recounted being blindfolded and handcuffed before being transferred to Israel, where he claims he was held in solitary confinement for extended periods and subjected to psychological pressure during interrogations about potential Hezbollah connections. His brother stated that approximately 100 Lebanese individuals remain in Israeli prisons, a key point in ongoing negotiations. Ayash's mother expressed hope for the return of all detainees to their families.
