Israeli Drone Strike Kills Two in Lebanon's Nabatieh

Two young men were killed on Friday in an Israeli drone strike targeting them while they were on a motorcycle near the Engineers Syndicate building in the city of Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA).

Ambulance teams transported the bodies of the victims to a Nabatieh hospital, while firefighting crews worked to extinguish a blaze that erupted on the motorcycle following the direct strike. Sources confirmed the attack occurred in a crowded area, causing panic among residents.

The strike comes amid an escalation of Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon. The Israeli military conducted artillery shelling and explosions targeting seven towns in the districts of Tyre and Nabatieh, including Al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun, Beit Yaacoub, Beit Lif, Sarbin, Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh, and Mhaiboub.

Artillery shelling continued in the Tyre district, targeting the areas around Beit Lif and Sarbin on Friday morning, following earlier shelling at dawn that hit Al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun, and Beit Yaacoub. Israeli forces also carried out explosions in Al-Mansouri, with no further details on damages provided.

In the Nabatieh district, Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh and the outskirts of Mhaiboub were subjected to intermittent artillery shelling. An Israeli Merkava tank targeted neighborhoods in Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh from the direction of Mhaiboub, accompanied by successive explosions and heavy machine-gun fire from the western outskirts of the town, causing a fire in the targeted area.

These ongoing attacks have caused widespread fear among residents, leading to the displacement of many families from the targeted areas. Civil defense teams are working to extinguish fires and evacuate civilians amid continued shelling. The attacks occur despite an agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv regarding a gradual Israeli troop withdrawal under U.S.-brokage, raising questions about the agreement's future amid continued military operations.

Since March 2, 2026, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in over 4,000 deaths, more than 12,000 injuries, and over a million displaced people, according to Lebanese authorities. A local source told NNA that the continued raids and shelling exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and threaten civilians daily, calling for urgent international intervention.
