Chabad Emissaries Launch Nationwide Drive for Mezuzah Checks and Shofar Preparations
As the Hebrew month of Elul progresses, Chabad emissaries across Israel are undertaking a widespread public awareness campaign focused on checking mezuzahs and tefillin. This initiative aligns with a directive from Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe, who emphasized the importance of mezuzah checks during Elul for increased divine blessing and a good inscription for the new year. The campaign encourages emissaries to spread this message widely.
To facilitate this effort, the youth wing of Agudath Chabad has developed comprehensive programs and professional toolkits for thousands of emissaries operating from Metula in the north to Eilat in the south. This outreach continues even as many Israelis are on vacation before the start of the Elul period. A special program, "Voices in the Forest, The Spirit of Elul with a Chassidic Flavor," has been produced to explain the concept of repentance according to Chabad philosophy, alongside activities for emissaries leading groups on repentance tours.
Furthermore, emissaries are preparing for the "Shofar Operation" ahead of Rosh Hashanah. The goal is to significantly increase the number of Jews who hear the shofar blast, with a specific target set by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Ahronov to double the number of people reached this year, despite the shofar only being blown on the second day of Rosh Hashanah. This will be achieved through the efforts of thousands of emissaries and followers.
In addition to the shofar initiative, Chabad's "Open Synagogues" are expected to host tens of thousands of worshippers during Rosh Hashanah, offering practical guidance and explanations for holiday prayers to attendees from all backgrounds. Rabbi Ahronov noted the growing momentum of the emissaries' activities, seeing it as a fulfillment of the Rebbe's blessings and a step towards preparing the world for the coming of the Messiah.
