Israeli Forces Detain Palestinian Woman Over Instagram Posts

Israeli forces raided the home of Samaheh Mahamid in Umm al-Fahm early last Thursday, detonating her door and entering the premises. Mahamid was detained inside her home, wearing her nightclothes, before her phone was confiscated and her room and library were searched. Several books were also seized.

Following the raid and search, Mahamid was taken to the Al-Qishla center in Jerusalem for interrogation. The prosecution requested an extension of her detention, citing secret files, leading to her being held for three days in the Moscobiya prison.

Mahamid's detention stemmed from two Instagram stories she posted expressing sadness over the emptiness of Al-Aqsa Mosque during the recent Israeli-Iranian conflict. Details about the content of the stories or the specific secret files mentioned by the prosecution were not provided.

Mahamid reported being blindfolded and bound from the moment of her arrest, stating that the restraints left marks and caused bleeding on her legs as she was dragged to a court hearing.

After three days, Mahamid was released under several conditions. These include five days of house arrest, a 90-day ban from Jerusalem, a 90-day prohibition on using social media, and financial guarantees including a personal bond and a third-party surety.
