IDF Recommends Hitting Beirut’s Dahieh for Every Attack, Even at Risk of Another Round with Iran
Security officials and the IDF expressed disappointment with the way the latest round of exchanges with Iran ended, and indicated that, from their perspective, the campaign is far from over. The main evening newscast reported tonight, Tuesday, that the IDF is recommending the political leadership change the response formula in the north, striking Dahieh in Beirut with force in response to every shot fired toward Israel, even at the cost of another round of fighting. It is also assessed that another round with Iran may come soon.
The assessments come against the backdrop of comments made today by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, who said, "The Iranian attempt to set equations and change reality will fail." He added, "The strike we carried out was preparation for a much more significant and heavier blow. We are prepared to return and deliver another deep and painful strike on Iran."
Zamir visited an exercise as part of "Fire Series," which is currently taking place under the leadership of the National Ground Training Center (MALI), as part of the training of future battalion and company commanders. Accompanying the visit were Ground Forces Commander Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan, MALI Commander Brig. Gen. Eliad Moati, the commander of the 38th Division, and Operations Directorate head Brig. Gen. Sharon Altit.
In his remarks to the commanders, the chief of staff referred to the level of General Staff readiness and said, "The IDF has maintained, and continues to maintain, alertness and immediate readiness to return to fighting in Iran. All of our defense and attack systems were alert and ready. We intercepted the threats fired at us and struck in Iran quickly and forcefully."
The chief of staff stressed that the fighting against Iran's proxies continues. "We will continue to operate and deepen the damage to Hezbollah and defend the communities in the north," he said. "The IDF is alert and will act with force anywhere we identify a threat to the citizens of Israel." He detailed that IDF forces continue to strike in the area of the forward defense line in southern Lebanon, and are operating in several areas to destroy terrorist infrastructure, including significant underground infrastructure in the Beaufort area, which was used by Hezbollah as a fire base and as a command center for managing the fighting.
