A 48-year-old man broke into the Munich home of former Bayern Munich star Mehmet Scholl early Monday morning, shortly before 5:00 a.m., while the family was asleep. German tabloid Bild reported that the intruder entered through an unlocked patio door and did not appear to be looking for valuables. Instead, he reportedly took a shower and then went into the bedroom where Scholl’s 20-year-old daughter, Foly, was sleeping with her partner, Sandro Forte, 24, who plays for TSV 1860 Munich’s reserve team.
Foly Scholl said the man tried to climb into her bed. “This crazy man broke into my father’s house, where my boyfriend and I were sleeping. When he tried to lie down on me in our bedroom, my boyfriend and I beat him hard. Then we held him until the police arrived,” she told Bild. Scholl himself also intervened to protect his daughter. The intruder suffered a cut to the head and was arrested inside the house.
Munich police said the suspect is a German man from the Miesbach district and is known to have mental health problems. He has since been taken to a psychiatric facility.
Scholl, born in Karlsruhe to a Turkish father and German mother, played 15 seasons for Bayern after joining in 1992, scoring 116 goals in 468 matches in all competitions. He won eight league titles, five German Cups and the 2001 Champions League, and scored eight goals in 36 appearances for Germany. Earlier this year, his younger daughter Josephine, 17, spoke publicly about a rare bone disease that leaves her in chronic pain and limits her movement. She is the partner of Tom Bischof, a 20-year-old Bayern Munich defender/midfielder.
