Israel Assesses Iran Unlikely to Escalate War Over Hezbollah

Contrary to earlier reports, Israeli security officials believe Iran is not inclined to be drawn into a war with Israel due to the situation involving Hezbollah, despite significant pressure from the Lebanese militant group. These assessments suggest Tehran will not back Hezbollah with attacks against Israel, even as Hezbollah seeks to deepen Iran's involvement.

Hezbollah is reportedly exerting considerable pressure on Iran to escalate its support and join a direct confrontation with Israel. This comes as Israeli forces have made significant advances in the strategic Ali Taher mountain ridge area, destroying tunnel infrastructure and eliminating militants. Security officials believe Hezbollah has largely accepted the loss of control over this key position.

The Israeli assessment contrasts with a Reuters report claiming Iran had warned the United States of a significant response if Israel attacked the Ali Taher complex. The Reuters report, which Israeli security sources denied, stated that Iran threatened a large-scale attack if Israel launched a full assault on the ridge, where Hezbollah militants and Iranian Revolutionary Guard members are allegedly present.

According to the Reuters report, the message was conveyed through Oman and that US pressure had led Israel to postpone an attack on the ridge in mid-August. However, the IDF stated they were unaware of any Iranian presence in the area. The Ali Taher ridge is described as a strategic Hezbollah stronghold, featuring an extensive underground complex of bunkers and tunnels used for command and control, weapons storage, and rocket launch facilities.
