Watchdog Group Slams High Court Order for Ex-Shin Bet Agents' Names

The Movement for Quality of Government in Israel has strongly criticized a Supreme Court decision compelling former Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) agents who opposed David Zini's appointment as agency head to reveal their identities.

The court ruled that the agents, who had initially petitioned anonymously against Zini's appointment, must provide their names to Zini within seven days. This decision follows an earlier ruling that Zini has the right to know the identities of those who challenged him.

Eliad Shraga, chairman of the Movement for Quality of Government, warned that revealing the names could lead to personal and professional retribution against the petitioners. The organization urged Zini to waive his right to receive the list, stating that his insistence on obtaining the names deepens divisions within the Shin Bet and undermines public trust.

During a hearing earlier in the week, Supreme Court President Isaac Amit had reportedly suggested Zini reconsider his demand for the names. Despite this, the final ruling mandates the disclosure.

The Movement for Quality of Government asserted that the Shin Bet should not become a tool for intimidation or persecution of those who criticize its leadership or the government. They called on Zini to cease actions that harm the agency and allow its personnel to focus on national security.
