High Court Orders Ex-Shin Bet Agents to Reveal Identities in Challenge to New Chief
Israel's Supreme Court, known as the High Court of Justice (BAGATZ), has ruled that approximately 180 former Shin Bet (General Security Service) agents must reveal their names to the agency's new chief, David Zini. The former agents had filed a petition challenging Zini's appointment and had initially sought to remain anonymous.
Chief Justice Isaac Amit had previously suggested that Zini drop his demand for the petitioners' identities. However, Zini reportedly refused, stating that those making accusations against him in a legal petition should do so openly.
Justice Noam Solberg had earlier noted that the petitioners had not provided a legal basis for concealing their identities from Zini, given his high-level security clearance. Solberg had also suggested that Zini might voluntarily forgo the list after the petition's review, acknowledging the former agents' potential ongoing interactions with the Shin Bet.
The ruling compels the former agents to identify themselves to Zini, who is now the head of the agency they once served.
