Charity Appeals for Bone Marrow Donations Ahead of High Holy Days

As the High Holy Days approach, the organization Ezras Achim is launching an emergency fundraising campaign for cancer patients awaiting bone marrow transplants. The organization highlights the growing number of patients and the urgent need for donors, citing a special call from prominent rabbis. These religious leaders emphasize that bone marrow donation is the only way to save many patients suffering from severe illnesses.

Ezras Achim reports that its donor program, led by Rabbi Chananel Tzurk, has already facilitated nearly 500 matches, saving numerous lives. The cost of testing a potential donor is 180 shekels, a sum the organization urges the public to cover, framing it as a spiritual act that will serve as a powerful advocate for donors and their families during the Day of Judgment.

Rabbi Tzurk, the chairman of Ezras Achim, describes the initiative as critically important, acknowledging the current economic hardships but stressing the principle of "measure for measure" in divine reward for acts of kindness. He expressed that repentance, prayer, and charity can avert harsh decrees, and a generous donation can achieve great things in heaven.

The organization shared a recent success story of a child who was near death due to the lack of a match, but after extensive searching by Ezras Achim's team, a life-saving donor was found. The appeal concludes by encouraging the public to donate 180 shekels to save a life and secure a strong advocate for themselves during the upcoming High Holy Days.
