Kfar Saba Launches Innovative Pedestrian Safety System Amid Rising Road Fatalities

Amidst grim statistics showing 74 pedestrian fatalities since the start of the year, the Kfar Saba municipality is piloting an innovative system to enhance road safety. In collaboration with the company Safecross, a new solar-powered system utilizing advanced sensors has been installed at the intersection of Weizmann and HaMa'apilim streets.

The system detects pedestrians on the sidewalk who are about to cross and immediately activates bright, focused lighting on the crosswalk. This aims to alert drivers, improve visibility in darkness, and provide more time for braking.

Kfar Saba Mayor Rafi Sa'ar emphasized the project's importance, stating, "The safety of residents in the public space is our top priority. We are constantly working to integrate innovation and technology with practical solutions that can save lives. It is our duty to make the public space safer."

Sigal Shitrit, director of the municipal road safety authority, added that the goal is to create a safer road environment for all users, particularly at sensitive points like crosswalks. She noted that alongside technology, the city continues to focus on public awareness, education, community outreach, infrastructure upgrades, and enforcement to foster a culture of safe driving.

The municipality will evaluate the system's performance in the coming weeks with the intention of expanding its deployment to additional locations in the city. This initiative is considered a significant step in promoting urban technologies for smart and safe city management.
