Residents Terrorized by Mentally Ill Neighbor in Horror-Like Ordeal

Residents of an apartment building in Rishon LeZion, including Ram and Dina Zilbershtein, are enduring a living nightmare due to the persistent harassment of a neighbor struggling with mental health issues. Security camera footage shows the neighbor vandalizing and tampering with apartment doors and peepholes, turning the building into what residents describe as a "horror movie." The constant destruction and fear have deeply affected the families, particularly their children. Dina Zilbershtein stated, "Our son is afraid to go out into the stairwell. When you are in a situation like this, like in a horror movie, your mind goes to all sorts of scenarios."

The residents feel helpless and frustrated by the lack of effective response from authorities. The Zilbershteins shared their ongoing struggle and powerlessness in a television interview, detailing how their repeated appeals to the police and health authorities have hit dead ends. They expressed concern that the disconnect and lack of coordination between law enforcement and mental health services prevent a real solution, leaving them unprotected in their own homes.

The Israel Police stated that upon receiving a complaint, an accelerated investigation was opened, leading to the identification and questioning of a suspect. The suspect was released under restrictive conditions, and further details cannot be disclosed due to the ongoing investigation.

The Ministry of Health responded that due to medical confidentiality and privacy, they cannot provide details. They confirmed the complaint was received and handled as usual, and that the district psychiatrist acts according to the Mental Health Treatment Law.
