AC Milan have officially appointed Rúben Amorim as their new head coach, the club announced on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. He replaces Massimiliano Allegri, who has moved on to Napoli.
Amorim arrives in Milan after a disappointing spell at Manchester United, where he was sacked during the season after 14 months in charge. The Portuguese coach had previously enjoyed major success at Sporting Lisbon, and hoped to revive United’s glory, but failed to do so.
In the club’s official statement, a Milan executive said the team had been tracking Amorim for years and described his work at Sporting as “extraordinary.” The official added that his profile “fits perfectly” the style of football Milan want, calling him “one of the most talented and innovative coaches of the new European generation,” with a clear tactical identity and strong ambition.
Amorim also commented on the appointment, saying he understands what Milan represents, “history, prestige and an extraordinary fan base around the world.” He called the job a challenge he takes on “with pride and excitement,” adding that he cannot wait to begin and experience the passion that drives Milan every day.
