Three Former Soccer Players Detained in Match-Fixing Probe
Three former Israeli soccer players, two men and one woman, were detained on Thursday on suspicion of manipulating games in the Women's Premier League as part of an organized betting scheme. Authorities allege the suspects operated a systematic mechanism to influence game outcomes in exchange for payments, aiming to profit from illegal gambling.
The investigation, which has been ongoing for several months, is being conducted by the National Bureau for Economic Crimes (YALAK) within Lahav 433, in cooperation with the Football Association. The suspects were brought in for questioning at YALAK headquarters.
Investigators are currently examining the scope of the operation, identifying any additional individuals involved, the methods used to fix matches, and the total amount of money handled by the network. The police stated, "Israel Police will continue to act decisively against phenomena of corruption, match-fixing, and illegal gambling, which can harm the integrity of sports and public trust."
