Sarah Netanyahu Faces Defamation Lawsuit Over Oct. 7 Conspiracy Claims

Yair Golan, chairman of the "Democrats" party, is preparing to file a defamation lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after she refused to retract conspiracy theories she leveled against him. The dispute centers on comments Netanyahu made during an interview on Channel 14, where she questioned Golan's actions on the day of the October 7th Hamas attack.

During the interview, Netanyahu suggested that Golan, a high-ranking former military officer, was prepared and in uniform early on October 7th, implying he was aware of events before others, including the Prime Minister. Following this, Golan demanded a public apology and financial compensation within 24 hours, to be donated to victims of the Nova music festival attack. He threatened legal action if his demands were not met.

Sara Netanyahu rejected Golan's demands and, in turn, demanded a public apology and clarification from Golan within 24 hours, along with a payment of 100,000 shekels within 48 hours. She threatened to seek 1 million shekels in compensation if he refused.

Golan is now compiling new evidence, including previously unpublished video and other materials from October 7th, to present in court. He aims to refute what he calls "false theories" about his conduct. According to his planned evidence, Golan left his home at 8:30 AM on October 7th, proceeded to the Home Front Command, and was then tasked with going to the Urim headquarters. He reported receiving information about the situation there, including the injury of the regional commander, before eventually arriving at the Nova festival site, where he claims to have rescued six people.
