A late-night incident in central Jerusalem ended with several American yeshiva students being freed after their arrest on Pinias Street, despite police asking to extend the detention of two of them by five more days. The arrests followed police calls to the area over reports of disorder and noise.
Police officers detained several yeshiva students, all U.S. citizens, during the operation and brought them to the station. The force then asked the court to keep two suspects in custody for an additional five days.
Shimon Shisha, described as a community activist, quickly mobilized on behalf of the detainees. At the same time, attorney Idan Gamlieli represented them in court and presented detailed legal arguments. Their combined efforts led the judge to reject the police request and order the immediate release of all those arrested.
Even after the ruling, police asked to delay the release of one of the students. The legal hearing centered on claims that police used violence during the original arrest.
