Israel Admits Role in 2008 Assassination of Syrian Nuclear Architect

Israel has officially taken responsibility for the 2008 assassination of Syrian General Mohammad Suleiman, who served as President Bashar al-Assad's top security advisor. The operation, revealed 18 years later, involved naval commandos emerging from the Mediterranean Sea to eliminate Suleiman at his summer villa in the Syrian resort town of Tartus. The commandos reportedly fired precise shots at Suleiman from close range on his balcony before disappearing back into the sea, leaving no trace.

Suleiman was identified as the architect of Syria's nuclear program and led the establishment of the Deir ez-Zor nuclear reactor in cooperation with North Korea, which was destroyed by the Israeli Air Force in 2007. He also commanded a clandestine weapons development and procurement branch, controlled the Assad family's defense budgets, and acted as a key liaison for transferring advanced weapons, missiles, and game-changing equipment from Iran to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The revelation sheds light on a covert operation targeting a high-ranking Syrian official involved in strategic weapons development and regional arms transfers.
