Ex-PM Olmert Reveals Israeli Navy SEALs Killed Syrian Nuclear General
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has revealed in his new book that elite naval commandos, known as Shayetet 13, were responsible for the 2007 assassination of Syrian General Mohammed Suleiman. Suleiman was identified as the key figure behind Syria's covert nuclear reactor in Deir ez-Zor, which was destroyed by Israel in an airstrike that same year.
According to Olmert's account, the operation involved Shayetet 13 snipers who emerged from the water under the cover of darkness. They approached Suleiman's home in the port city of Tartus, northern Syria, to within approximately 150 meters before carrying out the assassination.
This revelation sheds new light on a significant covert operation conducted by Israel deep within Syrian territory, targeting a high-ranking official involved in the country's suspected nuclear program. The operation's details had remained classified for 18 years until Olmert's recent disclosure.
