Ex-PM Olmert Reveals Israeli Navy Commandos Killed Syrian General

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has revealed in his new book that elite naval commandos, Shayetet 13, were responsible for the 2008 assassination of Syrian General Mohammed Suleiman. Suleiman was identified as the key figure behind Syria's covert nuclear reactor in Deir ez-Zor, which was destroyed by Israel in 2007.

According to Olmert's account, the operation involved snipers from Shayetet 13 emerging from the water under the cover of darkness. They approached Suleiman's home in the port city of Tartus, northern Syria, to within approximately 150 meters and carried out the assassination.

The revelation sheds new light on a covert operation conducted 18 years after the fact, detailing the methods used by Israeli special forces in deep-penetration missions.
