Analyst Outlines Best and Worst Case Scenarios for Deni Avdija's Season

Mike Richman, host of the "Locked On Blazers" podcast, analyzed the upcoming season for Israeli NBA player Deni Avdija, detailing potential best and worst-case scenarios. Richman described Avdija's past season as "truly, truly, truly special," suggesting that without injuries, Avdija would have been a strong candidate for the All-Rookie First or Second Team. However, injuries hampered his performance in the latter half of the season, impacting his effectiveness.

In the most optimistic scenario, Richman envisions Avdija becoming a perennial All-Star, elevating his game even while playing alongside ball-dominant players like Ja Morant and Damian Lillard. This scenario hinges on Avdija maintaining his shooting efficiency (around 36-37% from three-point range before January) and his effectiveness driving to the basket. With a potentially reduced offensive load, Avdija could also become a more significant defensive player, contributing to a more complete overall game.

The worst-case scenario, according to Richman, involves the arrival of more dominant guards diminishing Avdija's strengths, particularly his ball-handling. If his shooting doesn't recover to pre-injury levels, his struggles might be amplified when playing off the ball, making him a less effective floor spacer. In this scenario, Avdija's best contributions might come when he's not on the court with Morant and Lillard, and if his defense remains at last season's disappointing level, he could fall out of All-Star consideration by 2027.

Despite these scenarios, Richman expressed confidence in Avdija's talent, stating it's "hard to see a world where Deni suddenly becomes a complementary player" because he is "too good." He believes Avdija is currently a better player than both Morant and Lillard, despite their past accolades, citing Avdija's consistent performance and talent.

Richman also suggested a positive outcome where Avdija's individual statistics might decrease (e.g., averaging 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists instead of 25, 6, and 6) but this decline could ultimately benefit the team's overall success.
