Iran Tensions Rise Amidst Attack Threats and Diplomatic Stalemate

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of a potential surprise Iranian attack during the High Holy Days, though military intelligence assesses this scenario as unlikely, albeit not illogical. The IDF estimates the probability of such an event as low, but anticipates continued exchanges between Iran and its adversaries due to the stalled negotiation talks. Efforts by Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who visited Tehran last week on a U.S. mission to de-escalate, have reportedly failed. Despite these statements, U.S. officials told The Wall Street Journal there are no plans to escalate the military campaign in Iran, though a House committee chairman anticipates increased fighting after a briefing from CENTCOM. Iran continues to target ships utilizing U.S. military support in the Persian Gulf, with two Saudi oil tankers attacked near the Strait of Hormuz. Over 50,000 U.S. troops remain in the Middle East to enforce the blockade on Iran. The Iranian state news agency IRNA reported at least 11 Iranian civilians were killed in recent U.S. strikes.

In response to U.S. strikes, Iran fired ballistic missiles towards Jordan, Bahrain, and other U.S. targets in the Middle East. The deputy governor of Sistan and Baluchestan province confirmed U.S. bombs hit Chabahar and Konarak districts, a fact corroborated by IRNA. The IRGC threatened a complete closure of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz if U.S. attacks on Iran continue. Simultaneously, alarms, explosions, and interceptions were reported in Jordan's skies due to launches from Iran, with explosions also heard in Eilat, Israel.
